Way back when I was a lad, I don’t remember distinguishing between the direction we placed the candles in our Chanukiah (that’s the proper term for the Chanukah menorah) and the direction we lit the candles. At some point, I learned that there is a proper way to do so.
As you look at the Chanukiah, we add candles from right to left, the same direction we read Hebrew. We then light the candles from left to right because the newest candle gets the honor of being the first one lit.

One of the many reasons Chanukah today is not what it was when I was little is the abundance of new Chanukah music and one of the best examples of that new music is Adam Sandler’s Chanukah song. Here’s version number three…
Season of Giving
There are so many causes that need our attention. In addition to the worthwhile global organizations, I especially like to participate in local opportunities to help out. Our High Holy Day food drive collection goes to Community Food Bank, but it’s time to expand that collection to a year round endeavor. I’ve placed a bin our lobby and encourage you to regularly bring in an item for the food pantry. The Food Bank also needs monetary assistance. You can donate easily on their website: Community Food Bank
