Tonight was Theology Pub at the First Street Alehouse in Livermore hosted by Rev. Adam Walker Cleaveland from Asbury United Methodist.
The subject, appropriately, centered upon interfaith dialogue.
However, there were definitely a few questions taking advantage of having a rabbi available to answer questions.
It was good discussion and clear that the group valued opportunities for interfaith interaction.
I shared one analogy I’ve discovered that speaks well to the pride we take in our own religious affiliation… My religion is better than yours for the same reason my high school was better than the one across town… it’s mine. Is it really better? I don’t believe that. I do believe that we should each feel proud of our heritage and religious affiliation.
Ultimately, what brought me into professional Jewish life, is the same concept that brings me together with active members of other faiths. It’s the opportunity to engage in the work of making the world a better place. I doesn’t usually matter why we engage in this sacred task, but the repairing of our world is a beautiful way of dissolving differences.

Beautiful thoughts...enjoyed!
